Michelle Painter

Michelle Painter is a consultant clinical psychologist who is registered with the HCPC and is a chartered Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Michelle has over thirty years’ experience of working in various NHS settings and held positions such as Lead for Psychological Therapies and Clinical Director for adult mental health services. Throughout her NHS career she has been active in clinical research working as both a therapist and lead clinical supervisor on a number of clinical research trials. She is also an EMDR Accredited Practitioner.

Michelle is a highly experienced expert in psychological therapy and uses a range of approaches (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT; Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing EMDR; 'third wave' approaches such as mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy DBT; integrative therapies).

Psychological therapy is effective in supporting people work on reducing the impact on their lives of a variety of mental health difficulties (including anxiety, depression, stress, panic attacks, low self-esteem, relationship problems, bullying, OCD, paranoid thoughts, hearing voices, psychosis, bipolar disorder, self-harm, regulation of emotions and trauma) or stemming from being autistic or having difficulties with attention, organisation and/or hyperactivity (ADHD). Therapy can support people in building their self-confidence, navigating the impact of major changes in their lives and helping people set and achieve more fulfilling life goals.

Effective therapy does not only require clinical expertise but a supportive and collaborative space for those seeking help. Michelle will work with you to establish an understanding of what has brought you to therapy and develop a personalised, evidenced based plan to help you move forward with your life.
